Where to go

Rwanda offers a wealth of unique and unforgettable destinations. Top of the list for many travelers is Volcanoes National Park, nestled in the misty Virunga Mountains. This haven for endangered mountain gorillas promises the thrill of face-to-face encounters with these majestic creatures. If diverse wildlife excites you, head to Akagera National Park, where lions, elephants, giraffes, and zebras roam the sprawling savanna, and a boat trip on Lake Ihema reveals hippos and crocodiles.

Beyond its incredible wildlife, Rwanda boasts destinations bursting with culture and natural beauty. Explore Nyungwe National Park, one of Africa's oldest rainforests, offering canopy walks amidst lush greenery and encounters with chimpanzees. For a relaxing lakeside escape, the shores of Lake Kivu provide sandy beaches and picturesque towns like Gisenyi, perfect for swimming, kayaking, and unwinding with breathtaking views.

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled within Rwanda's Virunga Mountains, is world-renowned for its endangered mountain gorilla population and breathtaking volcanic landscapes. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes is a top attraction that should bring you to Rwanda.

Best Time To Go

The most suitable time to go on safari in Rwanda is during the dry season, spanning from December to February and June to September. This is because the weather is sunny and dry, and the wildlife is more visible around water sources. Gorilla trekking is also best during this time as the trails are drier and easier to navigate. Birdwatching is ideal from December to February and June to July since migratory birds flock to Rwanda's national parks during these months.

The wet season from March to May and October to November may have lesser crowds and lower prices, but the roads may be difficult to navigate in some areas. It's worth noting that Rwanda's national parks are open year-round, and each season offers a unique adventure. Please see the month-by-month analysis in the boxes below for further details.
